Mauritian Creole, French and English are the most popular languages you can hear on a regular basis. Mauritian Creole is a Creole of French origin and is believed to be spoken by around 90 % of the population. French, although English is the official language in Parliament, is the language that appears to be used in education and the media, but members can still speak French. French and English are commonly recognised as the official languages for government administration and the business of the courts.
